WILLIAMS MARTINI RACING driver Felipe Massa will join an exclusive club at the British Grand Prix this weekend, becoming only the 15th driver in Formula One history to compete in 200 Grands Prix.
Felipe began his Formula One career in 2002 with Sauber, completing eight seasons with Scuderia Ferrari before joining WILLIAMS MARTINI RACING at the start of the 2014 season. He has notched up 834 points, 36 podiums and 11 race wins in his career to date, putting him eighth in the all-time Formula One driver points record.
Commenting on the achievement Felipe said; “It’s a great achievement to get to 200 Grands Prix. There have been some great races, some great victories, some great championship fights, and also some difficult times in my career. But I’m really happy to be here and to be celebrating this important milestone.
“It’s also special to celebrate this with my new team at their home race. Silverstone is a great track and has a lot of incredible fans that love motor racing, so the atmosphere will be very special. I’m still very motivated to continue and to achieve more success. I feel very much at home at WILLIAMS MARTINI RACING and this feels like a team at the start of an exciting period in its history and I want to be a part of that. I’m feeling in great shape and want to keep adding more races to my growing tally.”
Sir Frank Williams, Founder and Team Principal of Williams, added; “Felipe is a great driver who combines raw talent with a strong determination. It’s these sort of qualities that have allowed him to stay at the top of motorsport for over a decade and join a club that boasts some of Formula One’s true greats. The new WILLIAMS MARTINI RACING motorhome was packed with Felipe’s friends from across the sport last night to celebrate his 200th race and this is a testament to how well liked he is across the paddock.
