From a points perspective 2020 will once again be one to forget as Williams propped up the bottom of the championship table but for the first time scored zero points. However, it was becoming increasing clear that Williams, the company, was also struggling and with the effects of the Covid pandemic making the future uncertain the family put the team up for sale.
The team was finally sold to Dorilton Capital and there were a number of rumours about who was exactly behind the money that was invested. While there was no clarity on this it was clear that Dorilton were putting money into the team. This included upgrading the wind tunnel and, in December, appointing Jost Capito as CEO.
The championship had been affected by the global pandemic and this had an impact on the team when Lewis Hamilton contracted Covid. Mercedes came calling for Russell and the Briton was replaced Jack Aitken starting his first grand prix.
